Known as America’s Data Agency, the Department of Commerce (DOC) provides a wide range of data types to support evidence-based decision-making by individuals and institutions. The DOC aims to accomplish its core mission through transparent, participatory, and collaborative use of data. In implementing Title II of the Evidence Act, also referred to as the Open, Public, Electronic, and Necessary (OPEN) Government Data Act (“OPEN Government Data Act”) and the Open Government Directive, DOC is publishing high-value data sets that increase transparency, collaboration, participation and accountability to improve public knowledge of DOC operations. Per OMB Memorandum M-25-05–Phase 2 guidance on the Implementation of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018: Open Data Access and Management, the DOC is currently developing its Open Data Plan.
